Norman Palace, Palermo

#2 of 467 in Things to do in Palermo
Must see · Architectural Building · Historic Site
Admire one of the finest examples of Arab-Norman art in the modern city of Palermo at Norman Palace. Originally the seat of the kings of Sicily, the 12th-century palace now houses Sicily's seat of the regional parliament. It features a mix of Byzantine, medieval, and Arabic-influenced architecture and decor. Visit the mosaic-covered interior of the Palentine Chapel. At the palace, note the animal motifs that adorn the walls. One ticket includes admission to both palace and chapel. • I have given a score of 1 because the customer service and staff at this facility are just appalling even by Italian standards. The bad guy at the ticket office could not have been more unfriendly...  more »
  • Entry: 12 euros (a bit more if you want to visit the gardens) I thought the exhibition was bigger and more centered around the Normans. That part of Sicily's history had about three or four boards. The rest was more or less about the rest of Sicily's history and details on the construction of the chapel. The chapel was beautiful and with lots of small points of interest. Take note of the opening hours of the chapel printed on your ticket as the wait is long and the opening hours short. If you are visiting in the summer, you will love the air-conditioning in the exhibition ;)
  • One of the highlights of Palermo! Truly loss of words beautiful and anyone who appreciates history or ancient art will love it!! The chapel is gorgeous by itself, the colours and the setting are magical!
