Mercato Ballaro, an open-air market, sells food primarily. Choose from locally-sourced fish, vegetables, meat, cheese, spices, bread, and other groceries. Watch vendors expertly cut huge fish. Once you’re finished shopping, kick back with an espresso in one of the small trattorias. Markets are not entirely my thing. Tons of counterfeit goods and lots of shouting. But for the food alone this place is worth a visit. The popular markets of Palermo are changing rapidly but here you can still breathe something genuine. Multicultural and above all good food.
