Housing more than 8,000 Sicilians' mummies, Catacombe dei Cappuccini is one of Italy's (and the world's) most unusual and macabre attractions. Explore the tombs and hallways to view these permanent residents, the oldest of whom was embalmed in 1599. Two-year-old Rosalia Lombardo is one of the catacombs' most famous inhabitants. Although she interred in 1920, she still seems almost lifelike. The underground cavern's dry atmosphere and mineral content keep the mummies remarkably preserved. Small children and the squeamish may want to avoid this attraction. Make Catacombe dei Cappuccini a part of your Palermo vacation plans using our Palermo journey planner.

7 € entry fee. Very interesting, only a few place in the world are you able to have similar experience. About 30 minuts walk from city center. The highlight of my visit to Palermo. more »

The catacombs are a letdown as they are not catacombs in the traditional sense (underground or under a church, carved out of rock) Just shelves upon shelves upon which skulls attached to stuffed dummies are placed and “scarecrows” hanging on walls. A couple eerie pieces for sure. Great for the macabre lover. The little girl well preserved is kinda eerie.

This is a must see if you are in Palermo... it's a thing I wouldn't normally visit but my wife wanted to see it , The mummies are creepy and definitely a sight to see.... the clothes they are wearing are old but sometimes in really good condition. The entrance fee is 4 € per Person which is acceptable.
