A prime example of Rococo architecture, Cathedral of St. George, the primary cathedral of Modica, is noteworthy for the 250-step staircase leading up to it. Designated a World Monumental Heritage Site by UNESCO, this church has been rebuilt on numerous occasions due to destructive earthquakes in the 17th and 18th centuries. Climb the monumental steps to the base of the imposing facade and enjoy a panorama of the city. Examine the facade's ornate decorations, or step inside for a look at the silver altarpiece.     A very lovely cathedral full of charm and beauty. Free to enter and worth the 2 Euro charge to go up the additional 118 steps up to the bell tower and get a wonderful view of Modica.
