Escape the busy streets of Milan in Chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro, a peaceful, 15th-century church where you'll see a famous trompe-l'oeil choir. The apse in the church was too small to do much with, so Italian architect Donato Bramante created an illusory apse. Stand at the back of the nave, and you'll think you're looking at a deep apse. If you stand to the side, you'll see that it the apse is actually quite small. Admire the Byzantine frescoes and other great artworks throughout the church.     It might not be easy to spot the little street that leads to the church from the busy via Torino. Once you get in, however, it is a wonder. Besides the “apse” by Bramante, the sacristy on the right has interesting fifteenth century bronze busts, while the chapel on the left has precious frescoes from Charlemagne’s age.
