Savor the history of Crespi d'Adda, a World Heritage-listed "company town" that is still functioning--although its future is unclear. Company towns were developed in the 19th and 20th centuries in North America and Europe to satisfy the needs of industrial workers--nearly all jobs and facilities were provided by a singular company. While the historical settlement still thrives, changing economic and social conditions threaten its existence. Today's residents are mostly descendants of the original workers, but keep an eye out for the textile factory and the strikingly red Crespis Castle.
