Chiesa della Madonna dello Schiavo reviews

A little gem in the heart of the town of Carloforte. Built in the early 19th century to provide shelter to the statue of Our Lady of the Slave, which, found on the shores of Tunisia by Carlofortini slaves, offered them comfort during the years of slavery. Upon liberation and return to St. Peter's, they brought with them the statue (probably originally the figurehead of a boat dedicated to the Immaculate) and built this small church to offer shelter. A short walk from the port, don't miss itSee original

Our Lady of the Slave is the title with which is venerates the simulacrum of the Immaculate Virgin, guarded, in the oratory of the same name, located in the historical center of Carloforte, on the island of San Pietro. Simulacrum of Our Lady of the slave venerated in Carloforte The Simulacrum, in dark wood, which represents the immaculate conception of Mary, is presumably the polenadi of a Christian ship. It was found by the slave Carolino Nicola Moretto on the morning of November 15, 1800 in a garden of Nabeul in Tunisia, some distance from the sea. Guarded and venerated by the slaves Carlofortini, the simulacrum at the time of liberation was taken to Carloforte, where he built to guard a small oratory in sign of perpetual recognition for the liberation obtained. For a long time after the liberation, the slaves, celebrated on September 2 with a solemn procession, the anniversary of the incursion. Don Gabriele Pagani later stared at the celebrations on the 15 November anniversary of the discovery. The patronal feast, preceded by a solemn novena, recurs every year on November 15. Many prelates who participated in the celebrations among others Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzied on 15 November 2009 celebrated the Holy Mass and presided over the solemn procession Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re. On November 14th and 15th, 2010, visit Carloforte Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, who on the 15th day celebrates the solemn Mass with the bishop of Iglesias Mons. John Paul Zedda, and the evening presides over the solemn procession. On November 15, 2014 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the coronation of the Simulacrum on November 15, 1964. Cardinal Angelo Comastri presides over the solemn celebrations of the anniversary.See original
