After his soldiers destroyed one church, Bartolomeo Colleoni, commander of the Republic of Venice, ordered the construction of Cappella Colleoni on the same site in 1472. The chapel combines Romanesque, medieval, and Gothic styles with a traditional Renaissance structure. The polychrome marble designs in red, white, and black, adorn the outside and embody its extravagance. Admire the exterior, then head inside to browse the collection of 18th-century artwork. You can also visit Colleoni's tomb on the wall facing the entrance. Pictures are not allowed inside. To visit Cappella Colleoni on your trip to Bergamo, use our Bergamo trip planner.
