Take in the mystery and history of Drombeg Stone Circle, an enchanting recumbent stone circle consisting of 17 pillar stones. An excavation revealed an urn buried in the center along with the remains of a child wrapped in thick cloth. Radiocarbon dating revealed the artifacts to have originated from between 153 BCE and 127 CE. The stones are mysteriously oriented in the direction of the setting sun during the midwinter solstice, and the midpoint of the altar stone was set in line with the winter solstice sunset when viewed through a conspicuous notch in the distant hills. This is one of the most-visited megalithic sites in Ireland, so be prepared for bustling crowds.     Really enjoyed the place! It's a short easy walk from the (small) carpark. The place is mysterious with a unique atmosphere. It's very quiet and in a beautiful setting. The explanations on the signs are very informative and it's incredible to think some people used to live there forever ago. Would definitely recommend!

    Beautiful historic site. A very peaceful place to visit. I'm not sure I believe the story about heating up the water, but it's an interesting idea. I'll have to read more about the history of the site.
