St. Carthagh also known as Mochuda founded a church, monastery and school on the site in 635AD. Nothing remains of this early church but four memorial stones in the west wall date from the 9th century. A few fragments of the first Cathedral built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century survive. Parts of the Crossing date back to the 13th century. During the 17th century the Cathedral was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. Saint Carthage's Cathedral reviews
When I entered the place the music was being played giving the place a spiritual touch, you would be amazed by the amazing ambience that takes you into a journey to find yourself peacefully emersed in a prayer. The church is part of the historical identity of Lismore and it's been renovated very well without changing the original authenticity of the building.
A beautiful tranquil place. You dont need to be religious to appreciate it. Wonderful community who really care and rely on each other. A must visit. Appointments can be made to see the Cotton Library which is truly spectacular.
