Kathleen always admired the brave and courageous work of firefighters. Following the 9/11 attacks she decided to establish the garden of remembrance in memory to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11th 2001.
Kathleen passed away in March 2011 in New York following a battle with cancer and is buried less than 2 miles from the garden.

I found this garden to be a surprisingly touching tribute to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th. It’s a lovely garden with a tree for every firefighter, some of which also have trinkets left by family and friends.
You could easily miss the Remembrance Garden as it is understated and quietly sign posted. It is dedicated to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 11-09-2001. The 343 trees stand strong and the branches reach far into the air with Autumn hues on their leaves. Kathleen Murphy who gave this land in memory of these brave men certainly captured the essence of the men who gave their lives for others. It has a sense of melancholy and sadness but is also thought provoking at the wonderment of human nature.
