Active for 800 years, Hook Lighthouse represents the oldest operational lighthouse in the world. The lighthouse has been active since the structure was finished in the 13th century. William Marshal, the Earl of Pembroke, built this Norman tower in partnership with his Lordship of Leinster. Take a guided tour, which ends at the top of the lighthouse with stunning views of the natural surroundings. Watch for seals, dolphins, and whales in the nearby waters. If you've worked up an appetite, head to the cafe or enjoy a picnic on site. For a souvenir, visit the gift shop. We went to go and see the Light House and a small something to eat and drink at the little restaurant. There were activities for the kids outside where a man dressed as a pirate got the kids to do tug o war games etc. We also took a walk down to the water. It was great and could have spent hours there with the kids playing in the rock pools. The little restaurant was very busy and took a while to get food sorted,. We only ordered snacks like a sandwich and was okay. Beer was good.

Well worth a visit to Hook Lighthouse at €9 per person! The guide was brilliant, she was funny and very knowledgeable about Hook Lighthouse and surrounding area. She answered all the questions that were asked of her. The gift shop is small but has all that you need. The cafe was lovely, food freshly served and staff friendly. Highly recommend 🙂
