The Jeanie Johnston: An Irish Famine Story
Considered a living history museum, The Jeanie Johnston: An Irish Famine Story recreates the experience of 19th-century emigration for the modern-day public. This ship is a copy of the original three-masted barque construction of John Munn, which was built in Canada in 1847. The original ship carried many emigrants affected by the Great Famine to North America. The replica, created in 1993, serves asĀ an event space, training vessel, and museum. Visit the port to discover more about the ship's historical significance. Make The Jeanie Johnston: An Irish Famine Story a part of your Dublin vacation plans using our Dublin trip planner.

We had a lovely tour with Owen, who seemed genuinely intrigued with the history of emigration and the ship itself, therefore he really brought life into the stories. The history of the ship is very interesting and being inside and hearing the stories about emigrants gives you a pretty good idea about how life was back then. My personal favorite on this trip.
