The Famine Sculptures
Visit The Famine Sculptures, a haunting memorial to the Great Irish Famine of the mid-19th century. This sculpture was given to the City of Dublin in 1997 and is currently on display in the Dublin Docklands. Take in the detailed work of Dublin-based sculptor Rowan Gillespie. These human and animal figures represent those affected by the famine, which lasted from 1845 to 1849. The famine, caused by an infamous potato disease, killed many and forced others to emigrate from Ireland. This historical catastrophe is still highly debated for its political, economic, and social implications. A brilliant memorial with a nice bit of information on the boards and plaques around it. It definitely made me stop and read the boards to find out more.

Its a small, moody sculpture, but beautiful in its detail, its like Irelands holocaust museam. A place to quietly remember the past and dream of the future.
