Explore one of the city's most prominent landmarks and ring its legendary at bells at St. Anne's Church. Overlooking the River Lee, this 18th-century church is a symbol of the city and was made famous by the 19th-century song "The Bells of Shandon." Already deeply historical, the building is also remarkable because of its construction of red sandstone from the original Shandon castle and limestone from the now derelict Franciscan Abbey. Though the renovated interior is fairly modern in design, it boasts an array of interesting treasures including a christening font from 1629. Ascend the narrow staircase to ring the centuries-old church bells and see spectacular views of Cork. Those on a tight schedule can bypass the clock tower; known by locals as "The Four-Faced Liar," the time it gives depends on the wind and the angle of the viewer.     The climb is tight but not too long and its definitely worth it for the great views from the top. Definitely not for the claustrophobic though.  more »
