The emotional exhibit, Shoes on the Danube Bank pays tribute to Jewish victims killed along the Danube during World War II. View the 60 pairs of iron 1940s-style shoes that represent the footwear left behind by the Jews who were forced to stand barefoot at the river's edge to be shot by Arrow Cross militiamen during the Holocaust. Sculptor Gyula Pauer and filmmaker Can Togay designed and created this moving memorial, which was erected in 2005.     Never forget! Shocking and intense vibe! One should not miss this memorial! People respecting the meaning even placing candles and flowers for the fallen. Horrible peace of history, incredible and nice memorial, to be able to remember. One should be strong to stand next to the shoes, knowing the meaning. Absolutely shocking.

    amazing views of the lighted buildings including the Citadel the palace on the hill and the Parliament building and the three bridges. A definite recommend. It probably is the scenic highlight of Budapest. Please consider the night mode on your camera to capture the best pictures.
