Philopappos Hill, Athens

#2 of 10 in Parks in Athens
Historic Walking Area · Hidden Gem · Park
Philopappos Hill stands just southwest of the Acropolis and honors the memory of Philopappus, a Roman magistrate. Philopappus was a member of a wealthy and powerful family and was so well-liked that many people from powerful families mourned him. The two-story structure is adorned with sculptures that depict Philopappos in relief promenading and as a bust. Although only a portion of the memorial stands today, the entire monument was intact as late as the 15th century. You'll find the attraction perched on Mouseion Hill with gardens decorating the base. • You can get a very nice 360 view from this place!
