Starnberger See is one of Germany's largest lakes by volume. You can explore the surrounding geological formations created by a glacier. Walking or biking along the shoreline paths is another option. Kayaks, paddleboards, and other watersport equipment are available to rent. You may want to take one of the many ferries and boat tours, some of which travel to scenic Rose Island. Even on a chilly, mostly grey day, the lake is gorgeous. The sun was out when we arrived and you can see the Alps in the far distance. It is an easy trip on the S6 train from Munich. more »
Visiting friends in Berg and we thought we would like to go on the cruise boat around the lake. The boat was well decked out, modern and a great friendly crew. Food and drink was also available. It... more »
Nice lake that you can swim around, however be careful there are some mosquitoes in certain areas.. View is great as you can see Alps without any blockage and the nature is really untouched in some places around the lake.. Highly recommended to take a look..
One of the most beautiful lakes in Bavaria and indeed a great place to take a boat/cruise ride, ride or drive around it, swim in to and of course to enjoy the spectacle of the Alps visible on the southern end... The lake is surrounded by 8-9 beautiful villages.. Starnberg being the biggest and most popular of them... where the lake also gets its name from. There are many parks and bathing grounds around the entire lake too...some private some public.. though in the summers there's a problem of mosquitoes around the areas that are too green.
