Finally finished in 1484, St. Jacob's Church (St. Jakobskirche) took more than 150 years to build. This church contains the famous Holy Blood altarpiece of woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider, with images of the Last Supper and other important biblical icons. Some stained-glass windows here date back to 1350, and the organ is impressive. Snag an audio guide for an explanation of the art and history or for a spiritual tour discussing the passion of Christ. This church has a connection as far west as Galicia, Spain, via the medieval pilgrimage route called the Way of St. James.     Stained glass windows looked impressive, however we went too late in the day to get enough sunlight to see them. Still, the interior is impressive!  more »

    St. Jacob's is on the pilgrimage route to St. James's grave in Spain, and should be visited for its beautiful wood carvings and stone sculptures. A peaceful stop in a very touristy destination.  more »

    Beautiful Lutheran Church. 2,5€ for individual admission and 2€ for groups of 10+. A must see.

    The architecture is outstanding. I did not go inside as I was busy doing an overview tour of Rothenburg. The detail in the exterior was outstanding. I imagine the interior stained glass windows were dramatic.
