St. Sebaldus Church
The location of St. Sebaldus Church in front of the Albrecht-Dürer-Platz is evidence of its central role in city's culture. One of the oldest and most important houses of worship in the region, it takes its name from Sebaldus, a hermit and missionary from the eighth century. The structure was originally a Romanesque basilica, but in the ensuing centuries, the aisles have been made wider and the steeples higher. Much of what you see inside was restored after World War II's bombing damage. However, the stained glass windows, the Shrine of St. Sebaldus, and the organs survived, so you can still enjoy the epic reverberation of the organ's 15th-century pipes.
