Really... Nothing special. Over crowded. Many animals just sleeping far away. Although it is a nice park (as a park). Absolutely not worth the time and money. more »

A wonderful zoo in Hamburg, it costs around €20 per adult and around €15 for kids over 4yrs old. The zoo contains loads of animals from elephants to lions and everything in between. It's the first zoo of its kind not to use cages but rather low barriers with the animals separated by water or lower ground. They also have the option to pay extra for karts with wheels that you can use to carry/pull kids.

Went there for the first time in 20 years yesterday. Born and raised in Hamburg but never took the time to visit Hagenbeck since I moved away. Was amazed at the care and love that went into this place. It was always nice (in my childhood memories) but now as a Biologist I can appreciate the place in different ways. Nicely kept, clean, friendly atmosphere. Plenty and varied animals with pretty enclosures. Zoos remain controversial for many but the immense value of public outreach for wildlife conservation is undeniable - provided it is done right. This zoo is a prime example of it being done right. Highly recommended. We spent 8 hours there, included the aquarium/tropics house (which is downright fantastic).
