Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Marvel at the beautiful architectural design of King Ludwig II's Schloss Linderhof, the only residence he lived to see completed. Originally a historic hunting lodge, the 19th-century palace is set in the Graswang valley. It features historic landscaped gardens with fountains, monuments, and an artificial grotto. Tour the royal palace to admire the famous Hall of Mirrors and Versailles-inspired grand staircase. You can venture outside to take in the beautiful Rococo-influenced exterior of the building. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes for wandering the 50 hectares (125 acres) of palace gardens. Take a look at our Ettal route builder website to schedule your visit to Schloss Linderhof and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Amazingly beautiful palace. Very compact with outstanding gardens and scenery. One star off due to the guided tour. Ludwig picked this place due to its scenery so it would have been wonderful to see the palace without curtains covering it. With curtains up, it ruins the setting and makes the place feel small. I would love to see open view of the gardens as I walk through the place.
  • Ludwig was an interesting man, and this was his residential home. Its incredibly small, but absolutely lavishly beautiful. Take the tour and then see if you can get some time to yourself to explore the rest of the compound. Absolutely amazing site.
