Was really surprised that is was actually Hedeby, a major city of the Vikings. Great museum with very good explanations and materials. And the area with viking houses, harbour and walls. Well worth a.... more »

An interesting place with good displays. Not much in English but I think you can get headsets with different languages. We didn't have much time on our group tour so my husband's went in the museum. I went to the recreated village. Several people were demonstrating old time skills. It is a little bit of a walk to get to the village from the museum but a nice walk.

Very little in English UNLESS YOU BORROW A SPECIAL BOOK FROM BY THE TILL. The 2€ audioguide only has a few chapters to listen to. I spend ages going round trying to remember my schoolgirl German and using Google Translate to very slowly translate some of the descriptions. Then, when I took back my audioguide, I found by chance a copy of a book with ALL the descriptions translated into English. They were by the till that was not being used, and can be BORROWED for the visit. If I had been able to read that when going round, this would be a 5 ***** review.
