Constructed on the site of a smaller Romanesque chapel, Abbaye de Valmagne represents a former monastery built in the 13th century. The Gothic abbey church, a designated historical monument, features a nave, transept, and nine chapels radiating from the semi-circular ambulatory. Enter the cloister of the abbey, where you can walk through a garden courtyard with large stone arches and see the octagonal structure containing a spring-fed lavabo that the monks used to wash their hands before meals.     Really neat Abbey with a beautiful courtyard and outside restaurant. Also has an old medieval garden. Definitely worth a detour.
