Chateau de Tiffauges was thought to be one residence of Gilles de Rais: fighting companion of Joan of Ark, notorious serial killer, and the inspiration for the legend of Bluebeard. Due to this tainted history, the château was left to ruin for many years, but after the Counsel General of Vendée acquired the property, it once again opened to the public. The largest medieval castle in the region, it features an alchemy workshop and an array of war machines from that period on display. After learning the science of making gold, take a tour of the grounds and search for the ghosts that are said to haunt the castle looking for revenge.     What a gem of a place. We visited mid August as part of holiday by car. Parking was easy they have 3 free car parks we parked in number 2 and had a lovely little stroll to the castle along the river.....  more »

    Spent a few hours in this castle but that was not enough. A whole afternoon would have been better. There are so many activities and shows.The show with the horses and battles is really amazing. Was.....  more »

    Lots of activities and interesting displays. Shows are great. 22 euros fur 2 adukts and 1 child aged 7. Well worth a visit.

    Best value for money !!! Awesome entertainment even if you don’t speak French ! lots to do ! Kids would love it. Not too busy for this time of the year ! And the staff was very helpful and so friendly ! Thanks again
