Château Guiraud is a sweet white wine ranked as Premier Cru Classé (French, “First Growth”) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Belonging to the Sauternes appellation in Gironde, in the region of Graves, the winery is located in the commune of Sauternes. The estate vine plantings consist of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. The vines are on average 35–40 years old.

A very special find, nestling in the lovely organic vineyard and vegetable plots surrounding the chateau. We were staying at La Sauternaise in the centre of Sauternes and the owner suggested a visit, booking us in for a €22 tour, which was well worth the money, guided by the lovely Maria. Fascinating history and lots of detail about the history and nature of making one of the best Sauternes. Also book a table at La Chapelle, the excellent restaurant at the chateau!

We turned up on the day beginning October and were fitted into the next guided tour. The building is absolutely stunning, the tour informative and in excellent English. The tasting amazing, tasting one dry white wine and two sweet. It was perfect for us.
