Pont Canal, Moissac

#2 of 6 in Things to do in Moissac
Bridge · Tourist Spot
Admire Pont Canal, an architectural marvel that allows the Canal de Garonne to cross the River Tarn without the two waterways ever meeting. Built for commercial transport of goods, the canal helps to link the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. Hire a charter service in town to bring you across the water via the 356 m (1,168 ft) bridge, built in 1867 and one of the longest in the country, or you can drive to the base for a look at the 15 arches from below. Climb the steps for a closer look. From above, you can see boats drive into the lock, and watch the water level rise and fall, allowing boats to go up or downstream. • I had never seen a pont canal and frankly, it’s an amazing sight. Very beautifull. Well worth the stop.  more »
  • Le Pont de Canal is worth seeing, either from the river Tarn or along the toll path itself. It's an aqueduct taking leisure boats from the east to west of France.  more »
