Get a glimpse of World War II history by visiting Site Memorial du Camp des Milles. Today one of UNESCO's headquarters, it was once an internment camp for German and Austrian men, and later the place of transit for Jewish men. See the works of artists interned there, visit the preserved areas where they lived, and learn about genocide. You can walk the path people took on their way to deportation to concentration camps, see a gallery with paintings, and view a wagon that shows where the deportation took place. • We visited here in August 2020, the building has so much history that has been captured and displayed perfectly. All of the displays are in French and English, except for the film. Takes about 2...  more »
  • A moving and sobering, in-depth museum on this holding camp from WWII. This is probably the only full-scale original holding camp from that era available for the public to visit. Includes info on 1...  more »

  • Also in a leisure trip to Provence is good to take time to learn more about the secondary world war. This space is well made and give you a deep look at the French influence on the deportations.
  • Excellent because of social research stages which lead to genocide and practical application awareness and simple acts of resistance to avoid or minimize the impact of policies and acts against a minority population. I was surprised that Italy detained those of Germanic origin, held Jews seeking escape to other countries and finally transporting a significant number of Jews of all ages to German concentration camps.
