Fondation Claude Monet, Giverny

Must see · Garden · Specialty Museum
Your visit to Fondation Claude Monet starts in a little blue sitting room painted with that same colors that Monet chose. Restorations include period decorations, such as cement tiles made in Rouen, brightly painted furniture, and copper pots that contrast the cheerful blue walls of the large kitchen. Throughout the house, you'll see Monet's personal collection of over 200 Japanese woodblocks and works of art by his Impressionist contemporaries. When you stroll across the Japanese bridge, commissioned by Monet, admire the water lilies rising from the pond, which were also inspired by Japanese garden design. Low hedges separate the garden's plots, each with its own theme, harmony, shape, composition, and color palette. Look out for rare plant varieties and wisteria planted by Monet himself. • The gardens were beautiful. Amazed at the amount of colour even at this time of the year. We booked tickets online and had timed entry slots. When we arrived it became clear this wasn't necessary...  more »
  • I would definitely say walk strait through part 1 and go directly to pay 2 euro for the 3D part. The 1st part is like being in line for a ride at disneyland...there are designs projected on the wall.....  more »

  • I was fortunate to visit twice. My first visit was in April, start of tourist peak season. The best was that the Garden was in full bloom...spectacular! Amazing colors I had never seen before. Absolutely beautiful! The worst was too many people, pushing & shoving. I did not get in to visit Monet's house. I got tired of getting pushed around. The gardens are best to visit in the spring, but be patient with the crowds.... My second visit was in late October. Off season, so there were no crowds. The gardens were ready for grooming...I was able to visit inside Monet's home. The weather was a bit chilly.
  • Highly overrated garden just like Mona Lisa. Well it is a nice cozy garden but really not worth the time and effort it takes to travel from Paris unless you are staying very long & have seen everything the city has to offer. Also the famed Japanese bridge is beautiful in paintings but in reality quite average.
