In 1489, Chateau des Milandes was the main residence for the lords of Caumont. Today, it is best known as the former home of entertainer Josephine Baker, who restored this "Sleeping Beauty" castle in the late 1940s. Tour parts of the castle for a glimpse into Baker's intriguing life, walk through the bucolic gardens, or take in a Birds of Prey show that features some of the best fliers in the castle's falconry. This is quite extraordinary - but allow a good three-four hours; so much to see and experience! Both the Chateau and grounds are not to be missed! more »

Garden ok. Nothing special other than the chateau in the background. Ruined by modern stainless steel water courses that are designed to be then center of attention. About as attractive as a 1970s council estate in the middle of a medieval village. Yuck. Birds of prey cages are saddening. A bald eagle on a 1 meter leash, continually facing the wall 5 inches away. So sad. Owls are locked in small sheds no bigger than the bathrooms inside the chateau. The house and audio guide are good.
