View the sublime coastline, islands, and ocean at Pointe du Grouin, and you will realize why this is a tremendously popular place for 19th and 20th century artists to work. You’ll be able to see the island just offshore, but it’s an off-limits bird preserve. If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of dolphins swimming around the peninsula. At low tide, you can venture down to the grotto below the headland, but beware of high tide. The seaside path leads to small ports tucked into coves. Beyond the Herpin Lighthouse, a coastal path leads past rocks to several sandy bays and to L’Anse du Verger, a plain 19th century chapel with colorful marine-colored stained glass inside.
