Historic Site · Educational Site
With a foundation dating back to 102 BCE, Salin d'Aigues-Mortes is a seaside commune surrounded by well-preserved medieval city walls. It's also home to the Tower of Constance, built on the site of the former Matafère Tower that Charlemagne constructed in 790 CE. Despite the town's origins, most of the existing structures were created during the Middle Ages. Explore several structures designed by various monarchs, as well as the location where 45 Templars were imprisoned and tried. You also can visit the Chapel of the Gray Penitents, Chapel of the White Penitents, the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Sablons, and Saint-Louis Square, which contains the famous statue of Saint-Louis. • We wanted to visit so we tried to book online. The website wasn't working so we tried to phone but the phone was never answered. So we walked there from Aigues-Mortes with two young children. When we....  more »
  • What better way to spend last day in Camargue than take the train ride(at sunset) and see how salt is made. The scene is beautiful and looking at pink flemingos is a sight for sore eyes..  more »

  • Unfriendly, ignorant and rude! We wanted to do a train tour. When I wanted to buy the tickets the lady at the counter ignored me. I asked a Shop assistant when the next train leaves - the lady at the ticket counter heard it and told her colleague (not me, her client!) without even turning around that the next train was about to leave. I should buy the ticket on the train. When we arrived at the train the driver asked us whether we had tickets and since this was not the case we had to wait for the next train. Then he left. So I went back to the ignorant lady at the ticket counter. Since she didn’t understand English I tried my best to explain in French what had happened. She just said she doesn’t understand and she also doesn’t know when the next train is leaving. Still can’t believe it... To the people working there: are you sure tourism is the right industry for you? Is this how you want to represent your country to foreign tourists? To people planing to go there: If you prefer being treated with respect: don’t visit this place.
  • We did the train ride tour. Beautiful views, very friendly driver and very interesting. I only wish that the information on the train was also in English. If you are going there and have a bike you’re in luck since you can bike wherever you want and stop for pictures wherever you want.
