Although Sampo Icebreaker began its career as a tourism vessel in the 1980s, it continues to carry out its practical purpose. While the ship transports you along the coast, it breaks up ice in the water so other transport and trade vessels can pass. The ship's main port is Kemi, where it resides during the summer months, but in winter it is mostly on the water giving tours of the Gulf of Bothnia. The tour includes a guided walkthrough of the ship with the chance to explore the vessel's engineering. You'll have the opportunity to take a dip in the freezing water after your guide gives you a rescue suit that will protect you from the cold. Book tickets ahead of time on the attraction's website or purchase cruise tickets from the home port in Kemi. Tour options include a day, brunch, or afternoon tour, each of which takes a few hours. It is an impressive ice display and very cold. Those that tried the ice slide had a good time. I can not imagine sleeping there when the winter one is available?
