Observe penguins in their natural environment at Gypsy Cove the most accessible wildlife habitat near Stanley. The Magellanic penguins make their homes around the heathlands surrounding the pristine white sands of the bay, and can be seen in their droves in season. Sightings of waterfowl, gulls, black-crowned night herons, and rock cormoroants will also please budding birdwatchers. Bring warm clothing as the cove can get chilly. A great place to go to watch the Penguins going about there business follow the path around and there are some old gun emplacements at the top that made some great photo opportunity at late afternoon.... more »
A magical place where you can get upfront and personal with the penguins, but please keep behind the blue ropes. According to the Falklands Tourist Board it is just 6.5 km (4 miles) from Stanley and is the most accessible wildlife site from the capital city. It is part of the Cape Pembroke peninsula which is a National Nature Reserve. The small bay with its white sand beach is sheltered from prevailing winds. Magellanic penguins, also known as Jackass because of their braying sounds, breed here, nesting underground in burrows. Other birdlife includes black-crowned night-herons, oystercatchers, long-tailed meadowlark, two-banded plovers, Falklands flightless steamer duck, upland and kelp geese. Sea lions occasionally visit.
looks like a Caribbean beach.Loved the penguins and dolfins
