Altos de Chavon, La Romana

4.4
Visit a rustic Mediterranean village in the heart of the Dominican Republic at Altos de Chavon. Built in the late 1970s, the replica of a 16th century European-style village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro and Italian artist Roberto Coppa. Roam the charming cobblestone streets and quaint courtyards, admiring the shops, galleries, and restaurants that look as if they’ve been there for centuries. Don't miss the amphitheater, a venue that has hosted many famous performers. You can relax in a cafe and enjoy the picturesque vista, purchase authentic art pieces, or pay a visit to the archaeology museum. • the place is really nice. beautiful castle type area, a huge ampitheater outside that is stone and great views. Excellent photo opportunities there. We also ate at the small grill outside area...  more »
  • This is pretty in terms of architecture, but it is overall a bit odd. I paid $25 to get in and my driver was allowed to take me to the cathedral but to leave I had to taxi to the reception/gate...  more »

  • This is truly a must! If you are lucky to come to Dominican Republic this has to be one of the places to come. If you are planning a wedding, the sightseeing is breathtaking. It’s a magical place. Ladies do not, I repeat, do not wear high heels since it’s a historical place and streets are made of stones. Wear flats, wedges, sneakers, flip flops, but not high heels. There’s are lots of restaurant around which are very good. Bring cameras because you will fall in love with every corner.
  • This is a great place for vacation. You can really enjoy in this Place. This is more like a real paradise. And also this is a historic place.
