More than 40 kings and queens of Denmark are buried inside Roskilde Domkirke, making it a world record-holder in royal church burials. This World Heritage Site features mid-15th century frescoes, monumental Baroque paintings, stucco decoration, and elaborate sculptural compositions as well as and gilt, silver-plated, and white marble sarcophagi. The present brick cathedral with its twin Gothic spires was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, but porches and side chapels were added up to the end of the 19th century. Go to the gable's windows of the Christian IV's chapel, and see four putti holding up the symbols of death: a skull, a scythe, a torch, and an hourglass. The royal tombs represent the evolution of funerary monumental art. Compare the simple, classical appearance of the 19th century Frederick V's chapel with the ornate Baroque interior of the Christian IV’s chapel. Roskilde Domkirke reviews

From outside it is really nice. Unfortunately it costs 60 dkk to get into the church and apparently it is not allowed to go inside to pray because it is a private service. Didn’t really understand... more »
As a piece of architecture, it is an impressive stone church, and a UNESCO site. As a museum, it encompasses a lot of Danish history in an easy to comprehend fashion, giving history enthusiasts hours of interesting reading, along with pictures, sculptures, and the stone caskets of deceased members of the royal family. If you want to visit it as a Church and attend sermon, they have Sunday evening English sermons, which is a great place to experience a modern sermon that combines somber music with popular culture such as Life of Brian references, making it more relatable to the not so pious.
Love the sights and view of this ancient Cathedral! The main door and side door were enormously gigantic and have crafted features. And i like the architecture on this building, it has characters and several statues revealing the past history of its own narration.
