The square surrounding Prague Astronomical Clock is one of the most crowded spots in all of Prague, attracting tourists eager to synchronize their watches with one of the world's oldest timepieces. The town hall, founded here in the 1330s, houses the old town's main tourist office and has art exhibits on its first two floors. You can take a guided tour of the building to see its council chamber and assembly room, noted for containing exquisite mosaics from the 1930s. Be sure to climb the building's Gothic tower to see the inner workings of the famous astronomical clock, considered one of medieval Europe's major technical achievements. The clock's decorative figures put on a lively show on the hour, so time your visit if possible. Discover how to plan a Prague trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

Prague Astronomical Clock Reviews
Large plaza surrounded by many architecturally beautiful buildings and many places to eat. The famous 15th century clock draws crowds but is not near as interesting as the one in Munich, Germany. Admi... more »
Very popular attraction. Joined loads of people watching the once an hour display. Definately worth the detour to watch more »
This is "a must" if you re visiting Prague! It's such a unique place with nice vibes.. the clock measures three different times. Make sure you get there a few minutes before the hour to enjoy the show (the blue tiled windows will open and the apostolic characters will rotate in inside, while the skeleton on the right side of the clock will keep ringing a bell)! Also, musicians are normally playing music and singing in the background... absolutely magical!
Being a physics major in college, I was fascinated by the clock. But you don't have to be a "geek" to enjoy it. The architecture is beautiful and you get a musical show when the clock strikes various hours. Looks stunning in daylight and even more dramatic at night. Make sure to visit when in Prague and the Old Town Square. I still have a souvenir wall clock in my office from the trip showing the astronomical clock.
