Overlooking the city from its high point on the left bank of the Vltava River, Hradcany contains one of Europe's largest medieval castle complexes. An independent borough until 1784, this neighborhood consists of historical palaces and medieval churches, which guard some of the country's greatest cultural and artistic treasures. Although not as old as Prague's famed old town, the district remains one of the most photographed urban areas in Europe, its centuries-old spires and towers appearing on countless postcards, posters, and tourist brochures. While at the southern end of the district's central square, point your camera toward the rooftops of the old town, visible on the other side of the river.     One of the best spots to take a photo of Hradcany from is a little square to the right of the Charles Bridge on the Old Town side. Especially in October 2020 with hardly any tourists in town.  more »
