Trip Planner: Central America / Costa Rica / Province of Puntarenas / Osa Peninsula / Puerto Jimenez / Osa Wildlife Sanctuary
Observe an abundance of wildlife at Osa Wildlife Sanctuary, dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of animals that have been injured, orphaned or displaced. The sanctuary sits on a remote beach just near the Piedras Blancas National Park, where you can walk among the dense forest landscape and observe the animals in their natural habitat. See the popular spider monkeys or some of the country's most fascinating creatures, such as scarlet macaws and kinkajous. Osa Wildlife Sanctuary reviews
Be sure to wear sunscreen! The boatride, snorkeling, and baby animals make for a great day. We were disappointed we couldnt take photos but understand why. Great people doing important work! more »
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the sanctuary and its residents. I have worked as an animal care technician for many years and it is clear how much hard work and heart.... more »
I was so impressed with the Sanctuary's commitment to rescue, rehab and release animals whenever possible and care for them all their lives, if they cannot be released. I met the founder, Carol Patrick, in Borneo, and I decided to visit. Her phone rang frequently--a hotel found a baby sloth on the ground, an owl was it by a car, somebody purchased a baby monkey and doesn't want it after 2 months, a mother monkey was killed and there's a tiny infant, a starving baby parrot was found in a bush--and on and on. I visited two more times, donated, offered to help, began writing for the Sanctuary. Carol and her small staff work 24/7. She lives with no hot water, no electricity (a part time generator), no roads, pretty much no people--and she saves animal lives, protecting the rainforest and more. Osa Wildlife Sanctuary Rocks.
This is s place of love. Animals r treasured gifts at Osa. A place where the fauna and the flora r respected. I keep going back because the work there is difficult but very rewarding. I see Sanctarios all over NA. And I am an animal professional handler, clinician and Wildlife Rehabilitator. I am taken back by the dedication of the staff. They work for one thing - animal welfare.
