  • A little gem! We were actually just looking for a short late afternoon hike. And how well were those $6 spent. A nice „adventurous“ (that‘s what our kids say when there are steps, roots, little...  more »

  • We planned our entire day around going to visit the waterfall. Website says it's open, drove past it and the sign outside says open but when we actually got there it was closed. A huge disappointment considering we booked an extra night at a hotel just to enjoy this spot.
  • This is a hidden gem of Monteverde. I know that sounds like a cliche, but it was probably one of the most enjoyable experiences we had while in Costa Rica. If you are on the fence about this place, just do it. It is run by a local family who were extremely pleasant. You might want to call first to make sure that they are there though, it is their private property, so things can happen sometimes. It only costs $6 per person and the trail is mostly steps down the valley and across a few small bridges. They do not take credit cards, but they take USD or Colones. It may have taken 10 minutes max to reach the waterfall with a lot of stoping for pictures. The whole experience was peaceful and tranquil as we were the only people there for the hour or so after lunch we spent in and around the swimming hole and waterfall. The owners said that people often will come to do yoga or meditate, I can certainly believe that. The ambiance was incredible. The water was a little cold but super refreshing. Seriously, don’t skip out on this if you’re a fan of peaceful and serene (not to mention solitary) swimming areas.
