Alberto's Horses, La Fortuna de San Carlos

Before the ride even begins you are welcomed with a small meal. Some chicken, platain chips with salsa and a natural fruit smoothie. After, you head to the horses. There you are offered a helmet and a horse is chosen for you. You jump on the saddle and you all go as a group. I reccomend asking all questions regarding steering the horse before the tour begins. As there isn’t much instruction before hand. The tour begins on flat farm land and quickly changes into forest terrain. You go down steep inclines, through small rivers and, uneven muddy terrain. The trail leads you to “ la fortuna” waterfall. Once at the waterfall, you go by feet. The stairs leading to the water hole are numerous and take a toll on your already shaky legs. You can take a dip or just take in the scenery. I reccomend taking a snack as this is a rest stop before the trip back. I would reccomend a morning expedition as the horses are fresh. Bring long pants, a hat(as it might rain), water proof camera, bathing suit and, a towel.

Absolutely an awesome time. Alberto is incredibly nice as well as his family. This is by far the best horse tour my wife and I have ever been on. You are actually able to run your horse (if you're comfortable doing that) and direct where you want to go within reason. Other more commercial tours force you to stay in a line and there's no freedom. The meal prepared at the end was also one of the best meals we've had so far. She even accommodated my wife's vegetarian taste. This is by far a must do!! Best thing we have done in La Fortuna.
