Dedicated to the reproduction and conservation of an endangered species, Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi) serves as a world-class educational and research facility. Founded in 1987 with six pandas, the center has seen tremendous success in breeding the species and has offered its expertise to other zoos and conservation parks in international partnerships. Visitors flock to the park to see giant pandas up close and to walk the scenic paths of its grounds, designed to mimic the natural habitat of the bears and other species as closely as possible. Take copious pictures without a flash, and leave no tracks behind--it's the best way to learn about pandas without disturbing their protected living space. A beautiful sanctuary based in the interior parts of Chengdu. It was an hours drive from my hotel. It was the winters of 2016 when I visited this beautiful sanctuary. The Panda bears were extremely cute and sweet. Sluggish in the cold there were a plethora of other animals and lots of walking to do amongst the lush green forests and bamboo trees. The temperature was freezing , below zero degree Celsius so do carry enough layers of warm clothing and gloves with ear muffins etc. A beautiful experience of my lif.e and travels. The park is a must visit for all

(Visited August 2017) Had the opportunity to see baby pandas days old in incubators! Many babies were playing with each other in different areas. Was excited to have seen them as active as they were. The Red Pandas are the cutest! A couple were out and about walking their “paths” soaking up the sun. Look like little kudamundies. Nice concession areas for a quick break and refreshments. Nice place for families but walking is a lot so wear your comfy shoe and stroller a good idea for littles ones. Only negative would be the amount your walking and through very steep hills at times.
