Trip Planner: Caribbean / Cayman Islands / Grand Cayman / West Bay / Cayman Turtle Centre: Island Wildlife Encounter
Groups of sea turtles and an array of exotic animals appear during a visit to Cayman Turtle Centre: Island Wildlife Encounter, a turtle meat farm and conservation park. Established in 1968, the farm aims to protect the depleting population of wild green sea turtles from poaching through a combination of breeding for the meat industry, and the annual release of captive turtles into the wild. Stretching over 9.3 ha (23 ac), the farm is also home to a 2.7 m (9 ft) saltwater crocodile, an exhibit called “Predator’s Reef,” and the largest swimming pool on the island. Despite having attracted controversy in the past, there are also numerous spots where you can hold and touch yearling turtles--a rare opportunity to see the beautiful creatures up close. Cayman Turtle Centre: Island Wildlife Encounter reviews
We drove in and bought tickets to the viewing (not the swimming with) . It is very interesting place and watching turtles, small and big ones is quite fun even for teens. It is worth spending little..... more »
This place was way cooler than I expected it to be. We booked an excursion via Royal Caribbean on a cruise. The trip was easy and on arrival, we spent a short time getting a lesson on sea turtles... more »
Always love this place when we have the opportunity to come to this port on a cruise. Lots of opportunities to interact with turtles whether you like to swim, snorkel, or just touch them in a tank. Also be sure to tour the aviary and pay the dollar donation to feed the birds. They will land on you and eat from your hand. It is awesome! Check out the restaurant and gift shop on the way out. It has an awesome selection of everything you could want as a souvenir!
Did the stingray turtle swim excursion. When you do that excursion you get the longer time at both sites. The last time I did the turtle center we were only in and out of there in less than 30 minutes which was not long enough. this time we were there over 2 hours and we're able to enjoy swim with the turtles in the lagoon and also they offer non-salt water pool area that also has a slide and waterfall. The tour was very informative and got to see a lot of turtles and including the last Cayman known to be living. Cayman islands is what they're named after because there used to be so many Caymans all over the beach on the island.if you get a chance to spend longer time there it's a very enjoyable day they also have food and drink there to purchase. I'm looking forward to my return visit there.
