#8 of 57 in Historic Sites in Siem Reap
Ruin · Hidden Gem · Religious Site
Marvel at the magnificent stone remains of a pyramid-shaped temple-mountain at Pre Rup, a masterpiece of ancient Hindu masonry built in 961 CE. Dedicated to Shiva, intricately carved stone facades cropped and darkened by time and weather offer an awe-inspiring spectacle for visitors approaching and climbing the huge 127 m by 116 m (417 m by 380 ft) elevated platform. Believed to have been used for cremations, this impressive brick and sandstone structure, built on what was once a man-made island, displays warm colors and the magical play of light and shade. After conquering a steep stairway leading to the structure, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama over the area. • This is so spectacular. The intricate carvings sat about Buddha, war time and many more. It is left by ancestors long long ago. Personally I like old structures like this. Clean and well maintained. This is quite a flat temple so it is not exhausting to explore. Love the trees growing out of the ruins. Would come again
  • One of the hundreds of temple complexes located within the Angkor Archaeological Park and certainly not to be missed. Wake up early and spend long days exploring the park to get as many locations as possible. This spot is also ideal for sunset photography and its tall position offers unique photographic opportunities of the architecture combined with the surrounding flora and fauna. Once again just a breath taking construction and abundance of history to be studied and appreciated.
