Slave Huts at Orange Pan, Kralendijk

#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Bonaire
Historic Site · Landmark
The cramped and inhumane conditions at Slave Huts at Orange Pan continue to serve as a grim but important historical lesson. Built in 1850 and scattered along the coast, these small huts served as bedrooms and a place to store belongings while the Dutch colony's slaves were working on the salt fields, separated from their families. You can easily visit on a self-guided tour, as informational plaques next to the huts provide insight into the life of the slaves in the Caribbean. See Slave Huts at Orange Pan and all Kralendijk has to offer by arranging your trip with our Kralendijk itinerary builder site.

  • Amazing display of the conditions the slaves lived while working the salt extraction equipment.
  • Multiple slave huts right along the road. Not much too them, but very interesting if you like history.
