Travel across moat and drawbridge to reach Fort St. Catherine, one of the first coastal fortifications that English settlers built in the Americas. An impressive historical site, its construction first began in 1612 from timber, quickly replaced by stone in 1614 and rebuilt 5 times in its lifetime, the most recent at the end of the 19th century. FIve eighteen ton canons protect the fort, which overlooks Achilles Bay and St Catherine boasting dramatic views. It now acts as a museum housing an extensive collection of artefacts, photographs and displays-- come here to learn the history of Bermudian military in a World Heritage Site. In the heritage city of St. George, the fort is historic in nature and well kept for it's age. Views of the sea at @180 degrees and the through which most of the ships enter Bermuda can be seen. There is an entry fee to the fort. It is around a 5-7 min walk from the st. George bus terminal. Have time in hand when seeing the fort if you like history, there are a few things to read.

Cool place to walk around, nice beaches on both sides. Not very expensive. About a 15 minute walk from the bus stop in town.
