Van Buuren Museum, Brussels

#14 of 84 in Museums in Brussels
Art Museum · Hidden Gem · Specialty Museum
Declared a National Heritage Site in 2001, Van Buuren Museum showcases an impressive collection of over five centuries of art housed within an Art Deco house. Wander the rooms filled with both masterpieces and lesser-known works by Vincent van Gogh, James Ensor, Pieter Jansz Saenredam, Rik Wouters, and many others. David van Buuren was the patron of the Belgian artist Gustave van de Woestijne, who showed his gratitude by contributing to the couple's collection. Almost every piece of decor and furniture have been designed by Belgian and Dutch artisans--note the carpets in the living room designed by Jaap Gidding, and a 500 kg (1,100 lb) chandelier by Jan Eisenloeffel. Don't miss the landscaped gardens with their hedges, trees, and walkways--works of art in and of themselves. You can reach the attraction by exiting the tram at Churchill in the Uccle District. The museum operates on a limited schedule, check for opening times before you arrive. • Wonderful art deco house in the leafy suburbs, would love to live in this house which was full of character. The gardens were really nice too, great way to spend a couple of hours. The design and style of the house is the star though, well worth a visit away from the tourist-heavy locations.
  • It's a lovely place! The garden is gorgeous! Go to the heart's garden. 😉
