Museum of Natural Sciences, Brussels

#7 of 84 in Museums in Brussels
Natural History Museum · Hidden Gem · History Museum
Discover one of the largest dinosaur halls in the world at Museum of Natural Sciences, an attraction that is part museum and part research center. Don't miss the 30 completely assembled Iguanodon skeletons that seem to be stalking the dinosaur hall. These fierce beasts were discovered in the 19th century not far from the museum. A Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton is another favorite that sends chills up your spine, but the nearby herbivores, such as the Stegosaurus, don't seem too rattled. The permanent exhibits continue the local theme with dinosaur discoveries, evolution, insects, shells, minerals, and animal life in the city. Temporary exhibits also move through the museum and many of these are combined with educational programs. The museum is included in the Brussels City Card, which gives you free access to 30 city museums. However, a single ticket is also very affordable. • It's well organized but don't expect too much as you would from a European capital museum. The good side is that it's well tolerated by small children as it doesn't take too long to walk through the expositions. Cons: toilet is a disaster, some interactive exposition items simply don't work.
  • A lot of dinosaur skeletons and expos if you're a fan. Managed to keep my 3/5 year old busy as well. No parking for the time being so you might want to plan ahead. Also extremely hot inside.
