Veg Out Community Gardens St Kilda, St Kilda

#4 of 9 in Parks in St Kilda
Garden · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Veg Out is an organic, chemical free community garden run by volunteers. Formerly a lawn bowling green, the land Veg Out is situated on is administered by the local council for the State of Victoria, and has been permanently reserved for public use since 1881. We have over 140 plots, where members, friends, families and community groups enjoy getting their hands into the soil. Many have little or no gardening experience, but they soon learn as advice, seedlings and friendships are readily shared.

A commitment to a sense of community, conservation and organic gardening principles underpins all activities on the site. Veg Out also runs the monthly Veg Out St Kilda Farmers' Market, which held on the first Saturday of each month, 8am - 1pm, right behind Veg Out at the Peanut Farm Reserve.

  • I loved Veg Out Community Gardens in St Kilda. It's very well kept, clean, quirky and a great little spot for some time out. There's animals to keep you entertained, gnomes to hunt, relics that have been recycled and reused from the old lawn bowls club. I highly recommended to anyone who’s artsy, quirky or has children to pop down for visit. Hours of entertainment and just an all round great atmosphere if you feel like a break or something different.
  • Beautiful community veggie garden, also has small cactus feature section, chooks and aviary - worth a wander, as it is open to everyone. Be respectful and follow the guidelines listed on entry.
