Trip Planner: South Pacific / Australia / New South Wales / Blue Mountains / Mount Tomah / Blue Mountains Botanic Garden
In 2017 we celebrate the 30th Birthday of the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden. The Garden has a wonderfully interesting history, founded on the traditional land of the Gundungarra and Darug Aboriginal people which in 1804 was traversed by explorer George Caley on a botanic collecting trip.To visit Blue Mountains Botanic Garden on your trip to Mount Tomah, use our Mount Tomah trip builder tool.
The Garden sits on 252 hectares of land with 28 hectares open to the public and is home to 21,000 plants and 900 species.
The Garden is the only botanic garden in the world in a World Heritage Area and is focused on the conservation of cool climate plants. Over the next five years we are revisiting, and returning The Garden to the original vision for the site while aspiring to be the model garden for sustainable practices on a global stage.
Our educational, cultural and artistic events including exhibitions and workshops are set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Garden, reflecting the stunning surrounds.
We are located under 2-hours’ drive from the Sydney airport and less than an hour from Penrith and Richmond.

Well worth the drive along the mountains. Such beautiful gardens, worth walking all around it including the stunning rainforest area more »
The best thing is...it’s free! 😀 And other things as well. Well maintain garden with great view of the Blue Mountains region. It’s a cool climate garden with local and overseas plants surrounding the area. During Autumn, the garden looks stunning with the tree’s leaves changing colour. There’s a restaurant as well as a small cafe. Warning! After the fire hits some parts of the garden, there’s limited parking available. It’s only temporary though. Please contact them to get more information.
Lovely garden, designed beautifully, and seems to be doing despite the recent bushfires. My favourite is the redwood, but there are plenty of other plants to catch your eye. On the day I went, it was quite a bit cooler than it's surrounds, so bring a jacket just in case. Cafe serves basic food, and is a good spot to take in the view. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. You can also purchase plants here, including venus fly traps 😬🌱
